Through Innocent Eyes: Writings and Art from the Japanese American Internment by Poston I Schoolchildren
Edited by Vincent Tajiri. Contributors: Yuji Ichioka, Lane Hirabayashi & Lucille Reed Franchi. Originally compiled in 1943 as Out of the Desert by Ray Franchi and Paul Takeda with the assistance of teachers and students, this collection of writing and illustrations by students adds dimension to an understanding of the tragedy of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Located in Yuma County (now in La Paz County) in southwestern Arizona, the Poston War Relocation Center was the largest (in terms of area) of the 10 American concentration camps operated by the War Relocation Authority during World War II. Published by Keiro Services Press and The Generations Fund, 1990.
