Soon after President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 1942, this Civilian Exclusion Order and others like it, began appearing in public places all along the West Coast to notify people of Japanese ancestry of their impending forced removal from their homes. The orders instructed people to pack only what they could carry. Most of them suffered tremendous economic losses in addition to the humiliation of an unjust incarceration.
To commemorate the 75th Day of remembrance, we created a poster that is a reproduction of an original Civilian Exclusion Order from JANM’s permanent collection. Printed on heavy stock, this 18”x 24” piece is suitable for framing. Photographic image on a white background.
(When ordered with other merchandise, posters may be shipped separately via First Class Mail.)
