By Carolyn Kubota Morinishi and Marian Kurasaki Kubota. Illustrated by Kim Yoshie Kubota and Melissa Misaye Morinishi.
This book tells the story of the soldiers of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service in language geared towards upper-elementary and middle school children. The chapters follow the lives of these brave young men - from the plantations of Hawai’i and the WRA concentration camps on the U.S. Mainland, to the battlefields in Europe and Asia, and finally to their successful lives back home. Following each section are crafts, puzzles, games and activities to enhance the text.
The final chapter of the book suggests ways that kids can help perpetuate the soldiers’ legacy, and the appendix provides many recommended books and websites for further research.
Paper: 100 pp.
