Free Flight CD

Item # 040820.

Free Flight was an Asian American band of the ‘70s that, along with Harry Manaka and many other “Sansei Rockers” kept the Sansei Dance Party Era rockin’ at Southern California venues like the Rodger Young Auditorium, Blarney’s Castle, the Elks Lodge, and the La Mirada Country Club. Now, more than fifty years later, three of the band’s original members—Mariko (Takahashi) Nishizu, Willie Miyazaki and Jerry Kamei—have come together to recreate some of Free Flight’s music from their early days. Taking advantage of current technology, the group was able to gather from their far flung homes to record this CD. Sadly they were missing the fourth member of their band, David Jingu, who tragically died at age 27 as an innocent gunshot victim. Stepping in for this reunion project is Martin Shinn, formerly from the band Windfield Summit and currently performing with Fujazz. Jerry’s wife Jill is also joining as a back-up singer. Sit back and enjoy this nostalgic trip through a simpler time.
