In 1962, Yukio Kawaratani was hired as a city planner for the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, where, for the next three decades he became the primary planner to work on Bunker Hill. Included in the over thirty, multi-story buildings he developed are the Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, and Bank of America buildings, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, and the expansions of the Central Library and Convention Center.
In this biography Kawaratani shares his life growing up on the farm, World War II incarceration, recovery and training, marriage and family, his central role in the redevelopment of Downtown Los Angeles, and his present retirement as a civic volunteer. Paper: 292 pp.
