AKASHI-KAMA for JANM | Exclusive Collaboration

AKASHI-KAMA for JANM | Exclusive Collaboration
Akashi-Kama and the Japanese American National Museum have collaborated to create a collection of apparel centered around our heritage and inspired by JANM's upcoming exhibition, Don't Fence Me in: Coming of Age in America's Concentration Camps (2023).

The items span a range of silhouettes, including Akashi-Kama's signature Noragi Jacket, new Knit Polos and Hats, as well as made-in-Los Angeles Tees and Hoodies. Distinct Japanese American design motifs and patterns are used alongside vintage applications such as chenille, flock print, and knit intarsia. Select items in the collection will be available in the coming weeks, with the remainder to debut later with the opening of the exhibition in 2023.

Design and creative for the collection was a collaborative effort between JANM's Retail Team and Alec Nakashima, founder of AKASHI-KAMA and one of JANM's 30 Changemakers Under 30 honorees.
