This traditional folk toy has a long history pre-dating its introduction into Japanese culture in the early 20th century. As with many adopted amusements, Japan has taken its relationship with this toy to another level. The "sword" and "ball" game of skill has an association of competitors that establish rules and tournaments. Recently this craze has spread internationally, with kendama play as an alternative to the couch potato option of computer games. Hand-to-eye coordination skills are honed by players of all ages. This version is an official competition size made of high-quality seasoned beech wood. It is sturdy and well-balanced. Available in purple only. 7"H.
