Item # 111000.
These beautiful carp windsocks are displayed outside of homes to wish sons a good future. The banners diminish in size from the top to the bottom of the pole, each boy in the family represented by a different banner.
Carp are the most spirited of fish, fighting their way up swift-running rivers. This quality makes them the ideal symbol of courage and determination that has associated them with Boys Day (Tango no Sekku).
May 5 is now designated as Children's Day, and courage and determination can be emulated by boys and girls! These koinobori are made from cotton and will eventually fade when placed outside, however, we like the more traditional-looking design on these as compared to more modern synthetic windsocks. Available in three colors: Red, Black and National Museum Purple.
