These tenugui (towels) feature scenes from the 12th century Japanese scroll known as the Choju-giga (literal translation: "animal caricatures") and which is considered one of the oldest examples of manga or Japanese comics. The frolicking frogs, rabbits and monkeys are mimicking humorous human behavior such as drinking competitions, sumo, archery, and dancing.
