The Lost Lake

Item # 151631.

By Allen Say.

Luke goes to live with his father for the summer in a new city where he had no friends. His father worked all the time and didn't talk much, so Luke had to keep himself amused, but soon ran out of things to do. One day he starts collecting pictures from old magazines of mountains, lakes, and people having fun, and he tapes them onto the wall. He sees his father looking at the wall and thinks he is going to get in trouble for sticking things on the wall, but instead his father surprises him with an early morning announcement that they are going to go camping.

What follows is quiet tale of father and son, as they search for the perfect site told with luminous watercolors and spare, poetic prose.

Paper: 32 pp.
