In 1942, 15-year-old Ruth Mix began volunteering on weekends at the Gila River Japanese American internment camp, and was the only Caucasian nurse’s aide in Butte camp hospital. Her mother worked as an elementary school teacher at the same camp. During the summer months, Ruth volunteered full time and lived on site in a barrack with her mother.

This documentary tells Ruth’s story and the story of the people she met and befriended during her time at the camp.
