Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
May is Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month—an official celebration of the contributions and achievements of Asian and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Established in 1977, it is observed through community festivals, government gatherings, and educational activities for students. At the Japanese American National Museum, we believe that a better understanding of America’s cultural diversity ultimately creates a better world. In these difficult times, this message is particularly significant.
The National Museum acknowledges the continued celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month with an array of programs that promote Americas’ ethnic and cultural diversity in May and throughout the year.
