Local artist Emi Motokawa approached me one day with the idea of making soft kokeshi. She floated the idea as a possible submission to the upcoming Kokeshi collaboration between JANM and LATDA Museum. I told her it sounded interesting, but was not prepared to have her come back the next day having invented her hand-crocheted kokeshi (Krokeshi - get it?)
These are more art than toy with their contemporary colors and textures. Each doll has a tiny bell inside and shoe button eyes, which make them unsuitable as toys for children who still put small objects in their mouths. They would make a fine companion for a more mature child of ten.
The brown-haired Krokeshi come in three color combinations: Yellow/Green, Purple/Grey, Orange/Green.
