| Wood Veneer Kokeshi Necklace | By Molly M
Molly McGrath, a professionally trained architect, has sold jewelry at contemporary art museums around the country. After using a laser cutter to make architectural models, she recognized the potential to make unique jewelry. Using mostly sustainable materials like bamboo, veneer from responsibly-farmed forests and recycled suede and felt, Molly creates delicate sculptural jewelry. All findings are oxidized sterling.
Each doll is cut from veneer and backed with red suede which peeks out of delicately cut openings in the cheeks and kimono. Kokeshi is 1-1/2"H.Necklace is 18" L.
This kokeshi line was designed exclusively for the exhibition, Kokeshi: From Folk Art to Art Toy, a collaboration between LATDA Museum and the Japanese American National Museum.
